Sounds like such a simple phrase, but it is one that was capable of making some women nauseous, emotional and break out into a sweat.
To the Mommas with babies in heaven, we see you.
To the Mommas with their babies names picked out but they have yet to meet, we see you.
To the Mommas believing for their miracle, we see you.
To the Mommas who suffered through infertility and are now carrying their precious cargo, we see you.
To the Mommas that used another woman’s womb to help create life, we see you.
To the Mommas who had to use another women’s egg or another man’s sperm, we see you.
To the Mommas on the waiting list for adoption, we see you.
To the Mommas who have a revolving door for babies in need of a safe haven, we see you.
We see you and we ask you to stand. Yep, right where you are. Seems weird, but we promise, it will be worth it.
Today, we honor you. We honor your bravery, courage, resilience, battle scars, wounds that will never fully heal, we honor your humility and faithfulness. Your faithfulness to your body, your spouse, your family, your career, your friends, everyone you are holding it together for. Today, we give you permission to let go. Right now, breath deeply and cry, scream, yell, laugh nervously, or be silent. But keep standing.
While Mother’s Day is marketed to women with children, society has missed the mark. Some of the best mothers are those that fight every day to become one. You are worth celebrating. Today we celebrate you and stand with you…next to you…because we have been you…we are you.
