When you are going through Fertility treatments, it all feels so serious and it is; but, sometimes something funny happens that makes you smile through the pain. One of the many funny stories that happened to us, begins on our very first fertility appointment.
Let me paint you a picture! Nervous, biting nails, sitting in uncomfortable chairs, waiting to meet the doctor for the first time, and there we are staring out the window, making small talk about work and what have you!
The doctor comes in and starts his talk. Fast forward 30 minutes, the doctor says, we need to draw some blood from both of you. Andre turns grey, a cloudy, translucent color. I brushed it off, thinking he is finally realizing we are going to need help getting pregnant.
Next, we go into the blood lab area and we are sitting there waiting for what seems like forever, which was probably less than 5 minutes. Andre can’t sit still, he starts to pace. I ask, what is wrong and he proceeds to tell me, I don’t do needles. I totally forgot this, he really HATES needles. While, trying to stay calm, I tell him “we got this”, it will be quick and painless.
We sit in the seats. At this particular office, there are two chairs with a small half wall between. The nurses start drawing the blood from both of us. The nurse tells me that they are going to take 11-13 vials from me and probably 8 from Andre. We are about half way through and I hear Andre say, “I am going to pass out” and the nurse, ever so nicely, said no you aren’t, you are doing great.
About 2 minutes later, while I am on vial 11, I hear, “oh no, there he goes” and I look over to see, Andre has in fact passed out and is slipping out of the chair. I am in the other seat, screaming, “wake up, whats wrong”, the nurse is trying to finish my vials with the needle still in my arm. Andre’s nurse is trying to keep me calm, while trying to wake him. Well, he finally comes too and they are forcing him to eat a chocolate. He proceeds to tell them, “no, I don’t like that kind”… like nothing ever happened!
Then the nurse said it happens at least once a week!
The moral of this story is enjoy the little funnies with your SO! As, I sit here and remember the story, we are both laughing so hard, we are crying, while in the background is our baby monitor with our miracle baby sleeping!!!
