Twelve years ago, I took a leap and moved to Houston, Texas with my then boyfriend, now husband! We knew two people here, my Aunt Amy and Uncle George. To say that I hated Texas, was an understatement. My friends and family were back in Louisiana and we were all alone.
I would call my mom daily crying. I come from a very small town (well, not THAT small) and to move to a big (BIG) city was very intimidating.
Now, fast forward to present day…This last week, had been a very ROUGH week, we start our miracle baby in preschool. She has been with a babysitter (we love you Julie) since she was 11 weeks old. Audrey (aka Audy) was super excited to school, until she realized that “Mimi” wasn’t there!
She was crying, kicking and screaming! It was devastating, I was crying, I didn’t want to leave my baby.
She doesn’t know anyone, she is scared and alone.
So where am I going with this. Well, if it wasn’t for the power of friendship, I would be so lost. I started out this Texas adventure, like Audy; crying, kicking and sometimes screaming haha! But something amazing happened.
On Monday, I have over 20 text messages from my friends and family, checking on me, checking on Audy, sending words of encouragement. Throughout the week, the text messages and calls haven’t stopped either. I am so lucky to have some great friends and family and no longer feel isolated and alone (I also don’t kick & scream anymore either!).
I never thought I would LOVE living in Texas, where I didn’t know a soul, but now I cant imagine living anywhere else. I have truly made some amazing friendships.
I am glad I didn’t give up on Texas, because I wouldn’t have met some of the truly amazing people in my life! So, thank you for being my friend!
PS- Just so you know, Audrey is still having a rough go at it, so is mom! But everyday will get better! One day, she’ll stop kicking and screaming too…
